To quote Ms. Juicy, hey heyyy how y’all doin’?
Sometimes you commit to doing a weekly newsletter but then the Olympics happen (and you feel like a bit of a hypocrite) and the world reopened and you’re allowed to go to patios again and time gets away from you. Also, time is deeply fake and how dare y’all hold me to this arbitrary standard smh.
But I’m back and have a collection of articles, podcasts, and miscellaneous tweets to share with you that I’ve collected over the past month! We’ll be back to our regular programming next Monday. Hopefully. Maybe. We’ll see.
What I’m Listening To:
Burn It All Down: Name, Image, Likeness Jamboree
A few weeks ago I talked about NIL and the NCAA, with a focus on NCAA football & basketball. I recently listened to this episode of the Burn It All Down podcast re: NIL rules and I thought it was really interesting & helpful in getting a better understanding of NIL from all angles.
History of the 90s: Woodstock ‘99
I’ve seen a lot of discussion of the recent HBO doc on Woodstock ‘99 and, while having yet watched it, I wanted to recommend the History of the ‘90s episode that discussed the event. It’s a great TLDR for anyone interested in the event and the fallout but doesn’t have the time for the doc … or the attention span (like me). For more ‘90s nostalgia I recommended the episodes on grunge (Part 1 & Part 2) as well!
Internet Shit:
‘It devolved quickly’: Mary Carillo and her epic Olympic badminton rant, 17 years later
Sha’Carri Richardson, Alen Hadzic and our unending forgiveness for white male athletes
Domestic violence shelters are in a state of emergency
‘Forcing women out of clothing is just as violent as forcing them into it’
Shameless Self-Promo:
Did you know I have a Leafs podcast with the fantastic Helen called Real Gud Pros? We just released a mid-summer episode where we discuss the expansion draft, our beloved boy Luke Prokop, and the absolute dumpster fire that is hockey culture!
Till next time!
xoxo, Liz
