I’ve had this draft open in my tabs for a few days now and I’ve been trying to put down in words the sorrow I feel over the loss of Michael K. Williams and I just can’t. What a titan and absolute legend. My introduction to Williams was actually through Community, when he guest-starred as biology professor Dr. Marshall Kane. His career touched so many, his openness regarding substance abuse was so incredibly brave, his portrayal of characters that are often so disregarded by society was so powerful.
Rest in Power Michael, you will be sorely missed.

End of Sport Podcast: Inside/Out of the Sports Media Complex with Joel D. Anderson
Joel D. Anderson brings such an interesting perspective to this episode as someone who has both played college football and now works within sports media. His complicated relationship with football, and college football specifically, is really insightful and something I really enjoyed. One discussion that definitely jumped out to me is the supposed conflict between criticism and enjoyment, especially in terms of the physical danger involved in football. This intersection of criticism and enjoyment is something that I think about a lot in terms of the Olympics and the NHL and how my participation in these systems perpetuates harm. Anderson’s perspective is really interesting and I related to it quite a bit (despite having never played).
(Anderson’s first season of Slow Burn on Biggie & Tupac is also really really great – I’m highly anticipating his upcoming season on the 1992 LA Riots)

The Girl Who Pushed Tyra Banks (And The Internet) Over The Edge
Tyra’s “be quiet Tiffany!” rant was brought up on Who?Weekly this week and reminded me of this fantastic profile of the aforementioned Tiffany, Tiffany Richardson. An excellent read that reminds us of the humanity behind the memes (and just how batshit ANTM was).
