So after $600 million, several mini-scandals, a handful of thrown pebbles, and an unnecessary amount of tik toks, our national nightmare is over. National nightmare as in the election because oh baby, nothing else changed.
Like we are literally in the exact same position as we were prior to this. It is so wildly frustrating. I have some thoughts that are by no means cohesive but guess what, you subscribed to this madness so you get to enjoy the ride.
The NDP needs to figure it the fuck out. What are you? Are you the party of the left? Why are you willing to bend to centrist policies in an attempt to please the masses WHO DON’T EVEN VOTE FOR YOU? Do you understand how to campaign to different demographics? What do you stand for? You discuss climate change but yet say nothing about the BC NDP government actively attacking old-growth forests? Is it impossible for y’all to take a strong stance on anything?
Are we just going to have a new blackface photo coming out every election? The latest one, released by the Conservatives yesterday, makes it seem like no one else was even dressed up at this supposed costume party? I have so many questions.
Can we please talk about this fucking graphic? We talk about bias in media but damn, usually they try to be a LITTLE more subtle about it.
I saw a tweet last night talking about how if the cut in the number of polling stations and these hours-long lines occurred under a Conservative government we’d all be losing our minds about voter suppression and I could not agree more. It’s truly unacceptable and is something that the government needs to be held to account for.
The PPC getting 5% of the vote is both concerning and not surprising in my opinion. I’d prefer they got even less of the vote, I’d prefer the mainstream media gave them less attention, but it’s not shocking to me that a party such as the PPC would gain support in these unprecedented times. The pandemic combined with the rise of extreme right-wing ideology through groups such as QAnon combined with a completely unnecessary election? It’s the perfect kindling. I’m revisiting Nora Loreto’s piece following the 2019 election warning not to be so quick to celebrate Bernier’s loss because, well *gestures around vaguely*.
In conclusion,
But as a palate cleanser, may I offer you Denzel as MacBeth?
